Members of the Proud Boys were involved in multiple violent demonstrations in California and Oregon, the majority of which were against abortions. Proud Boys also participated in numerous anti-vaccine and anti-mask demonstrations. Every demonstration event in which Proud Boys participated throughout August in Oregon and California turned violent or destructive, including one violent demonstration that involved an exchange of gunfire. Nationally, nearly 50% of all demonstration events in which Proud Boys participated included violence, accounting for nearly 70% of all violent demonstrations in August (for more, see ACLED’s Actor Profile on the Proud Boys). Multiple militias and militant social movements including the Proud Boys, Boogaloo Boys, Three Percenters, III% Security Force, QAnon adherents, and the Virginia Citizens Defense League participated in armed demonstrations last month.

To help counter China’s claims in the Pacific, Australia is getting nuclear submarines

Updated Sept 16, 2021 »

The Biden administration took a major step on Wednesday in challenging China’s broad territorial claims in the Pacific, announcing that the United States and Britain would help Australia to deploy nuclear-powered submarines, adding to the Western presence in the region.

If the plan, announced on Wednesday by President Biden, Prime Minister Boris Johnson of Britain and Prime Minister Scott Morrison of Australia, comes to fruition, Australia may be conducting routine patrols that could sail through areas of the South China Sea that Beijing now claims as its own exclusive zone, and range as far north as Taiwan. The announcement is a major step for Australia, which until recent years has been hesitant to push back directly at core Chinese interests.

Dawson College & Gun Control

  • Survivors of Dawson College shootings urge voters not to support the Conservatives » The Halifax Star
  • 15 years ago on this date, a single gunman, armed with a Beretta Cx4 Storm assault rifle, a shotgun, and a Glock semi-automatic handgun, went on a shooting rampage at the Dawson College in Montreal, Quebec.
    • One 18-year old woman, Anastasia De Sousa, died at the scene, while another 19 were injured. The shooter eventually committed suicide, after being shot in the arm by a police officer
    • Erin O’Toole, the leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, continues to repeat the lie that the Beretta Cx4 Storm assault rifle used in the Dawson College shooting, was illegally obtained. It was not. The shooter obtained it legally. The Liberal government banned the Beretta Cx4 and 1,500 other assault-style weapons after the Dawson College shooting. O’Toole has promised the gun lobby to make the Beretta Cx4 Storm, the AK-47, and other assault weapons designed to hunt and kill humans legal again in Canada.
